FEP encapsulated O-Rings / PFA encapsulated O-Rings
STRUCTURE
ECAP FEP or PFA encapsulated O-ring, is an O-ring consisting of a seamless and uniform FEP/PFA encapsulation which completely encloses a core material of either silicone or FKM elastomers. The dimensions of the ECAP FEP or PFA encapsulated O-ring are characterized by the inside diameter and the cross section (I.D. x C.S.).
FUNCTION
The seamless, uniform and integral FEP/PFA encapsulation of the ECAP PTFE encapsulated O-ring is responsible for the sealing effect, whereas the continuous reset and the constant pressure of the encapsulation onto the sealing point is accomplished by the elastomer core. The result is an overall sealing compression, increasing with medium pressure. The ECAP PTFE encapsulated O-ring behaves like a highly viscous fluid, any pressure exerted on the seal is transmitted practically undiminished in all directions.
PROPERTIES
1) High chemical resistance due to the FEP/PFA encapsulation.
2) Operational temperature range of -196C/-320F to +205C/400F.
3) Anti-adhesive properties / non-stick surface.
4) Sterilizable - F.D.A. conform. See General Specifications.
5) Low vapor permeability and minimal water absorption.
6) Low compression set.
REMARKS
ECAP PTFE encapsulated O-rings are resistant to practically all chemicals due to the FEP/PFA encapsulation. The FEP/PFA encapsulation is integral and has no weak points such as obvious seams or overlaps.
98% of all technical applications are within the operating temperature range of the ECAP PTFE encapsulated O-ring.
The FEP/PFA encapsulation of the ECAP PTFE encapsulated O-ring has a very low coefficient of friction.
The elastomer core of the ECAP PTFE encapsulated O-ring ensures a continuous intensive contact with the sealing surfaces. Combining the best qualities of FEP/PFA resins and silicone or FKM elastomers the ECAP PTFE encapsulated O-ring is an inexpensive, efficient and economical solution to many critical sealing problems.
ECAP-O-Rings
PTFE Encapsulated Silicone, FKM and EPDM O-Rings Overview
ECAP-O-Rings are o-rings consisting of seamless and uniform PTFE FEP/PFA encapsulation which completely encloses a core material of either silicone or FKM elastomers. The ECAP-O-ring behaves like a highly viscous fluid, any pressure exerted on the seal is transmitted practically undiminished in all directions.
Features
High Chemical Resistance: Chemical attack and swelling are the primary causes of O-Ring failure. ECAP-O-Rings are virtually chemically inert, and do not swell.
Outperforms solid PTFE O-Rings: ECAP-O-rings match the chemical and temperature resistance of solid PTFE O-Rings, ECAP-O-Rings possess properties of elasticity and recovery which are crucial in many sealing applications.
Economical: ECAP-O-Rings economically and effectively replace FFKM and other exotic O- Ring compounds. ECAP-O-Rings will decrease downtime and hence increase profitability wherever corrosive fluids and gases cause premature seal failure.
Wide Temperature Range: ECAP-O-Rings withstand breakdown caused by industrial solvents and corrosive materials at elevated temperatures from -60° C/-75° F to +205° C/400° F. (see technical bulletin)
Non Stick Surface: Provides easy cleanup of viscous materials.
Low Coefficient of Friction: Self lubricating surface
Sanitary: Eliminates contamination of fluids by elastomers. Sterilizable and FDA conform (see 7)
Unlimited Sizes: Available in standard and metric sizes from .059" cross section x ?" I.D. to virtually unlimited larger sizes.
Low Compression Set: ECAP-O-Rings consist of either a solid silicone or fluorocarbon core encapsulated in FEP/PFA resin (with .010 to .045 wall depending cross section) which meets or exceeds requirements of L-Pl389A and ASTM-D-2166. (see technical bulletin)
